Welcome to my speech and language therapy home page! My name is Mrs. Olivia Marabito and I provide speech and language support through special education services here at Westmont Hilltop Elementary School. I support students in grades K-2 as well as students in the autistic support and life skills classrooms in improvement of their communication skills. I hope this page provides you with information on who I am, what speech therapy is, and resources/information to help support you and your child! What does a speech pathologist do? How can they help my child?
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults (ASHA website). More specifically in the school age setting, a SLP can help a child with articulation (sound production) skills, expressive language (grammar, syntax, mean length of utterance), AAC, receptive language (comprehension, vocabulary), pragmatics (social skills), fluency (stuttering), and more. A SLP may work with a collaborative team of individuals including the regular education teachers, parents, interventionists, and special education teachers to ensure the student's goal is met.
What is the process if I feel my child needs to see a SLP?
Speech and Language support services fall under the umbrella of special education services. If you feel your son/daughter may be in need of a speech and language evaluation, the process may begin with a screening to determine developmental norms (please see the links on the side to further assist you in understanding norm scales). If the student fails a speech/language screening, a permission to evaluate through special education services will be initiated. Thereafter, a formal evaluation process will begin to determine if your son/daughter qualifies for support.

Meet Mrs. Marabito!
I was born and raised in Johnstown, PA attending OMOS for grade school and Westmont Hilltop for high school (graduate class of 2009). I attended Penn State University where I received my Bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders and followed with attending IUP for my masters degree in Speech and Language Pathology. I hold a license in Speech Pathology through the PA Dept of State, a K-12 teaching cert for Speech Pathology, and I also hold certification through ASHA (American Speech/Language/Hearing Association).

After graduating from college I worked at Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 for seven years providing speech therapy services to both school age and preschool students in the Cambria/Somerset county. I have serviced students with a wide range of needs from articulation, expressive and receptive language disorders, fluency, AAC, and more!
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband Brett, our son Luca, and our golden girl, Kali.
