The Pledge of Allegiance Controversy: Read and take notes on as much information as you can find about the Pledge of Allegiance and the American flag. Has the pledge always looked the same? Has the hand gesture changed? Why? Should the pledge be said in school? Should everyone say the pledge? Look on the internet. Read some books, magazines. Interview some people from different age groups--get the names and the dates. See how much they know and how they feel. Be pleasant. You are not there to judge; you are interviewing to gain information. Participate during class discussions. Think. Later you will write a persuasive essay examining this topic. You may also present a creative project. Check with me first.
