Research--Advertising. Read “Analyzing Advertising Slogans” on page 145 of your Literature book. Take notes on this material. Find three advertisements--hard copies that you can give to me. Analyze these advertisements by doing the following:
What, really, is the advertisement selling? Oh, sure, it looks like toothpaste, but why is the white-toothed guy surrounded by three pretty girls with barely enough clothes to clothe a small chipmunk if we sewed all their wear together? Hmmmm?. We might then say that the advertisers are selling sexual appeal as a way to sell toothpaste. We would back it up with the women’s clothing, or lack of it I mean. Oh, you get the point. Get into that ad and really see what is being said. Advertisers are, after all, targeting the educated and those who have some money. Yes, the ads are clever, but do not let their cleverness fool you. Find out what is really being sold to you.
The assignment:
Turn in all materials by photocopying them--magazine pictures, web pictures, etc.
include a works cited page for each write a well-developed paragraph, approximately one page each, which analyzes each advertisement.
