Coronavirus / Influenza Information

Parents/Guardians,

As the media continues to report on the spread of the Coronavirus, I want to provide some information about the illness from the PA Department of Health.  First, you should know that there are zero cases of coronavirus in our community.  Influenza continues to be our area’s primary concern.  Just like the flu or a cold, the coronavirus is spread through the air, by coughing or sneezing; close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands; touching an object or surface with a virus on it; and occasionally, fecal contamination.  Please encourage your child(ren) to remain vigilant about hygiene practices and take preventative measures against any contact with people with obvious signs of illness, by covering coughs or sneezes with your elbow; washing hands; cleaning commonly touched surfaces; and if your child(ren) are sick, stay home and seek medical attention.  People most at-risk of contracting the coronavirus are those who have traveled to places where the virus is occurring.  In the case of the novel coronavirus, that location is China and parts of Europe.  For more information about the Coronavirus and the steps that can be taken to prevent the spread of all person-to-person illnesses, please visit: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx.  Please call your school’s nurse or the PA Dept. of Health with any questions.
