Westmont Hilltop School District

Summer Camps and Activities

Summertime is almost here and students are looking forward to a fun and relaxing summer.  As parents, we look to keep our children engaged throughout the summer to minimize the ‘Summer Slide’.  Here are a few options in the local community:

Elementary School Summer Camps

The school district is again offering learning opportunities for children entering grades K - 6 throughout the summer.  There are six weeks of camp starting the week of June 6th on Monday through Thursday from 9:00a - 11:30a.  Camps will focus on literacy, science, and geocaching.  Each camp will focus on engagement, fun, and learning.  Transportation will be provided from the Mound in Old Westmont, Camoset Village, and the Upper Yoder Township Building.  Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible for these FREE learning opportunities. Secondary School Summer Workouts and Sport Camps

Champions are made in the off-season.  The wellness and fitness center will be open each weekday morning to help student-athletes reach their potential.  The school district has hired a strength and conditioning coach for the summer workouts who will work with each athlete to maximize their athletic potential.  Sports teams will have specific meeting times, but athletes can make arrangements to use the facilities with other teams if they need to accommodate summer work schedules.  Also, be on the lookout for sporting camp opportunities from basketball and football.

If the summer camps are not offered to your child or there is a scheduling conflict, there are lots of other summer options.  The Community Arts Center of Cambria County has summer classes and programs for all ages.  Stackhouse Park is a wonderful resource for summer fun and learning.  The Learning Lamp offers summer tutoring programs to help students and parents eliminate academic skill gaps.  If you don’t mind a short drive, there are summer activities at local colleges: Mount Aloysius College, the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and St. Francis University.

There are many fun and engaging activities to keep everyone busy all summer long.  Have a great summer and we look forward to welcoming all of the students back on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, for the first day of school.
