I encourage you to connect with me and share your thoughts on the district's future, your Westmont Hilltop stories, and your Westy spirit.

The Hilltopper Archives... and a Tribute

Sifting through boxes of memorabilia this summer, we found several treasures, including this American flag, donated in memory of Jay (Joseph Ellery) Michaud, Class of 1968.
We reached out to our Facebook community in search of more information about the flag—and the response was overwhelming. Many heartfelt condolences and personal stories were shared in memory of Jay. Thanks to Jay’s sister, Janet Michaud, we received the details we had been looking for:
"The American Flag was bestowed upon the Michaud family, in recognition of 17 years of service on Capitol Hill, by Mayor Richard Daley, in honor of Jay's dedication as Deputy Director for Health and Welfare for the City of Chicago. Previously, Jay worked for the City of New York under the leadership of Mayor Ed Koch."
The flag will soon be proudly displayed in the high school boardroom, accompanied by a plaque honoring Jay Michaud, his dedicated service, his family's generosity, and the Class of 1968.

Rock Solid Kindness and a Tour
|
The Elementary School Kindness Rock Garden is growing, and all are welcome to contribute.
"Every student (K-6) painted a rock in Art class. Additionally, individual students were able to use their Westy Star tickets to purchase the 'Rock Painting Experience' through the school store (to paint rocks with me during lunch). We listened to music, talked about the importance of kindness, selected our design, and got to work!" – Nicole Kuzmiak, Elementary School Principal
If visiting in person is not possible (after grabbing a Clark's sub...), you can still take part! Mail your painted rock to the Foundation (address in the footer), and we’ll place it in the garden for you!

Launched in June, Red & Gray is the Westmont Hilltop Education Foundation’s 5-year campaign for businesses and individuals committed to supporting our students.
We're proud to share that, to date, we have raised $56,000, with $165,000 pledged over the campaign’s duration—directly benefiting Westmont Hilltop students. A heartfelt thank-you to all of our supporters and fundraisers!
More Than Fundraising: A Vision for Impact
WH Educations Foundation is committed to more than raising funds — we are building awareness and engagement across the community and among alumni. By highlighting the positive impact of community involvement on student life, we aim to showcase the shared journey of Westmont Hilltop’s growth. At the same time, we are shifting toward more flexible, unrestricted giving — a more efficient approach that delivers immediate support where needed most in our schools.

The Class of 1960, a member of the Red & Gray Hilltopper Spirit Club who also supports an annual scholarship to a deserving senior, have said it best:
|
"Once a Hilltopper, Always a Hilltopper!"
|
WH helped the Class develop a new logo to apply to their sponsorship. The triangle graphics below from the 1960 Phoenician depicts where the Westmont, Upper Yoder and Southmont community lines merge. This seemed a fitting inspiration to define the class logo for 1960.

"By supporting the program I feel I am also supporting the dedicated staff and alumni. It makes alumni proud when they hear of Westy academic and athletic successes."
