School Nurse

Hello :)

I'm Kelly, the Jr/Sr high school nurse.  I've lived in the district for 13 years. I have been a nurse since 2014 and started school nursing in 2016 after working as an RN supervisor and a med/surg nurse. I came to the hilltop in 2020 during the pandemic. I have loved watching your children grow from junior high to high school and graduating!  Thank you for allowing me to work with your families to make our community healthier. I enjoy my role at the school. I have two boys who attend school in the district and one on the way. I am made to be a  boy mom, sports and activities at our house are a constant. When we aren't at the field, ice rink, or slopes, we are camping. In my "free" time I love to exercise, run, craft, read, and hike. Reach out anytime [email protected] or 814-255-8741.

2024 UPDATE: I will be out of the office starting March 2024 until the last student day of the year to welcome our third son. During this time Nicole Zajdel will be covering the nurse's office. Please contact her with any questions and concerns at [email protected] and phone number 814-255-8741. Thank you for your understanding.

Is COVID still a "thing"?

Yes! COVID is still a "thing." Currently, our policy is for your pediatrician to fax over any isolation, masking,  or quarantine recommendations for your family to 814-255-2704, attn: Kelly. If your student tests positive at home, the doctor should still be able to fax a recommendation on your behalf. Most pediatricians follow the CDC guidelines which can be found here: CDC Guidelines 2023
Medications:
We have standing orders now! Please send in your student's signed pink emergency health form yearly to utilize this. Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Benadryl, TUMS, Neosporin, burn cream, sting wipes, and anti-itch gel can be used. You will need a physician's order for all prescription medications or higher doses of over-the-counter medications. Please have the medication form filled out. You can find it below.

Chronic Conditions:
Chronic conditions such as asthma, life-threatening allergies, Diabetes, Chron's disease, seizure disorders, migraine headaches, cardiovascular conditions requiring accommodations, etc. Require yearly orders for accommodations and rescue medications.
