Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling is available to all students. Small support groups consist of 2-8 students and occur weekly in the school setting for 6-10 weeks. Small groups are appropriate for students that are experiencing a challenge that is a barrier to their learning. A student may receive this service as a result of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) process. A parent or staff member may notice concerns that affect a student's learning and complete a referral to the SAP team. The SAP team will gather information from the parent, teacher and student in order to determine appropriate supports for that student. A parent will be notified of the recommended supports and have the opportunity to agree or disagree with the recommended supports (including small groups) for their student. A referral to an outside agency may be made if the counselor and parent feel that a more intense therapeutic approach is necessary.
