National Junior Honor Society Constitution:
Students interested in becoming members of NJHS should follow the guidelines below:

Scholarship:
NJHS students are committed to learning and growing on an educational path. It means making the most of the educational opportunities provided and seeking out learning, not only in school but personally.  NHS students maintain a 94% cumulative grade point average for the entire year.  Generally speaking you should be making the high honor roll each quarter, but it's your end of year averages that mean the most.

Service:
NJHS students voluntarily contributes to his or her school and community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.  You should look for volunteer opportunities in 7th grade or during summer to put on your application.  Volunteer work should be done for a non-profit organization, like a church, arts center, a park...etc.  We don't accept volunteer work for a for profit business or just helping a neighbor.

Leadership:
NJHS students are leaders who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life.  NHS students hold positions in organizations and teams or lead projects at the school or in the community.  Get involved with clubs and run for office if possible.  Try to start your own service project.  Become a captain of a team.  Be a summer camp counselor, or help out teacher Sunday school.  Leadership is difficult for younger grades but this is a big part of being in NJHS.  You need to seek opportunities to become a leader.

Character:
NJHS students uphold principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.  At this point you should know how to act in every situation at school.  Be a student that has high standards of academic integrity.  Cheating is a form of dishonesty and shows bad character.  Be cooperative throughout your day, this is what your teachers will notice as good character.  Say hello, be friendly, and don't be a problem during class.
The application process:
In early September applications will be available for any 8th or 9th grade student who is not currently a member of NJHS and that meets the 94% GPA standard.  After applications are collected the faculty council reviews the information provided and selects students to become inducted.  An induction ceremony will occur in late October.
